On August 27, 2026, it marked the official start of construction at an event with Ontario's Minister of Health at the Oakville hospital.

What has not been published

Halton Healthcare's releases do not split the provincial funding between the two hospitals, say which services the 12 Milton beds will support, give a staffing plan, or state a separate opening date for Milton. MiltonIQ reports those details only if Halton Healthcare or the Province publishes them.

How the emergency department works

Halton Healthcare says that if you are experiencing a serious medical emergency you should call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department, and that emergency care is available around the clock at all three hospitals. Patients are seen in order of medical need, not arrival: staff assess them using the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale, so someone with chest pain will likely be seen before someone with a fracture.

  1. Triage: a triage nurse assesses your health issue.
  2. Registration: staff collect your health history, contact information and consent for treatment.
  3. Diagnosis: a doctor or nurse practitioner consults with you and may order tests such as blood work or X-rays.
  4. Treatment: the doctor or nurse practitioner starts treatment and recommends next steps.
  5. Discharge or admission: you go home with written instructions or are admitted to an inpatient unit.

The hospital's emergency page lists estimated wait times for each hospital, updated every 15 minutes. The hospital says they are estimates for information only and can change quickly. If you are admitted, you may wait in the Emergency Department until a bed is ready, and you may be transferred to another Halton Healthcare hospital depending on the care you need and bed availability. Bring your Ontario health card and your medications.
