Milton election night: polls close at 8 p.m., and the Town posts unofficial results on its website and at the Arts Centre
The Town of Milton says preliminary results will go up on its website shortly after the polls close on Monday, October 26. Residents can also watch them in person, and the Town Clerk is due to confirm the official results the next day.
The details
When the polls close
Voting places in Milton's 2026 municipal election are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26. The Town of Milton says that preliminary results will be posted on its website shortly after the polls close at 8 p.m.
A vote-by-mail kit that was not mailed by October 15 can still be returned in person at Town Hall, 150 Mary St., until 8 p.m. on October 26, according to the Town's voter information page.
Where results will appear
- 8 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2026
- The Town's election results webpage, which the Town calls the online source for the latest available results
- Public results viewing in the foyer of the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton; doors open at 7:30 p.m.
- Confirmed by the Town Clerk on Tuesday, October 27, 2026
On October 25 the Town's election results page still said that results would be displayed at a later date, so there is nothing to read there until the polls have closed. The Town does not give an exact time for the first posting beyond "shortly after" 8 p.m.
Unofficial and official results
The Town says the results posted on election night are unofficial. The Town Clerk is to confirm the official results on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, so a figure seen on the evening of October 26 is a preliminary count rather than the final word.
Voters are choosing a Mayor, Regional Councillors, Town Councillors and English and French school board trustees. Which races a voter sees depends on the ward where that person lives, owns property or rents property.
Rules for media at voting places
The Town's Rules for Media page says media may not enter, film or photograph inside any voting location. It defines the voting location as the whole Town property on which the polling place sits, inside and outside the building, and says the rule protects voter privacy and the secrecy of the vote.
