Voting on Election Day
Election Day is Monday, October 26, with polls open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This year voters can use any polling station within their own ward. The Town's voter-information page lists the Election Day locations ward by ward: seven in Ward 1 and six in each of Wards 2, 3 and 4. The Town's ward boundaries map shows which ward an address is in.
Voters will choose a Mayor, Regional Councillors, Town Councillors and English and/or French school board trustees. Which candidates appear on a ballot depends on the ward where the voter lives, owns property or rents property.
Who can vote and what to bring
- You must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old.
- You must live in Milton, or you or your spouse must own or rent property in Milton.
- You must not be prohibited from voting by law, and you can vote only once no matter how many Milton properties you own or rent.
If you are on the voters' list, bring one piece of identification showing your name and address; photo ID is not required. The Town also asks voters to bring their voter notification card, which it said would be mailed in late September, but an eligible voter without a card can still vote with acceptable ID. The online period for updating voters' list information has closed; changes can now be made at a voting location by showing ID with your name and Milton address.
Vote by mail and by proxy
Requests for vote-by-mail kits closed on September 28. Anyone who has a kit must mail it by October 15 for it to be returned through Canada Post. After that, the completed return envelope can be dropped off in person at Town Hall, 150 Mary St., until 8 p.m. on October 26.
A voter who cannot vote in person or by mail can appoint a proxy: another eligible Milton elector who votes on their behalf. The Voting Proxy Appointment Form (Form 3) must be signed by both people and certified in person by the Clerk at Town Hall before 4:30 p.m. on October 26. Both the voter and the proxy must be on the list of electors, and a proxy can vote for only one person unless voting for a relative.
